Catalyst magazine feature

An article I co-authored on superconductivity has been featured in Catalyst magazine, a magazine about scientific research aimed at secondary school pupils and teachers.

    That’s a great piece… good job. Never seen one of the LHC magnets before. Big. Also that magnet wiring picture is HOT.

    One question: how can that be the world’s most powerful magnet? Looks like something a farmer built in his barn.

    Good question…. I was hoping no-one would notice that part ๐Ÿ˜‰ I didn’t supply that photograph (as the copyright on it suggests). I think what it should say is:

    “The worldโ€™s most powerful electromagnets are made of the superconducting ceramic known as YBCO. Even the small example shown here is able to generate up to 5 (or whatever) Tesla of field”
